Yamini Patel

Yamini Patel, MPH, is a a trained educator with expertise in curriculum development and instructional design. She created the training materials for the Exit Peer Specialist Training in collaboration with Georgia State University and Parents for Peace, equipping practitioners with the necessary skills to support individuals disengaging from violent extremism.
Yamini is a PhD candidate working in two research labs at Georgia State University: the Violence Against Women Prevention Lab with Dr. Kevin Swartout, and  the Violent Extremism Research Group with Dr. John Horgan. Her research explores perpetration and victimization of gender-based violence with a particular focus on public health and psychology. She specializes in research and program evaluation, specifically in: data collection, management, analysis, and presentation.
In collaboration with Georgia State University and the Injury Prevention Program at Georgia Department of Public Health, she recently conducted an evaluation of state-wide efforts to prevent and intervene violence and injury. The project used a social network analysis approach to measure collaborations and resource management across all organizations in Georgia (over 80) involved in violence and injury prevention. The evaluation was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a national effort to evaluate and decrease gender-based violence nationwide.
Her current research examines campus-based sexual misconduct among college students in the United States. Specifically, Yamini’s work involves developing a tool to measure the abstract concept of trust: how much do we trust our institution? The current project involves national data collection and a rigorous analysis plan including multilevel and factor analysis. In the future, Yamini hopes to continue providing methodological and analytic support services to non-profit and government program evaluation efforts in violence and P/CVE across European organizations.
